Engineers at Don State Technical University in Russia have unveiled an AI-powered training robot aimed at enhancing athletic performance while minimizing the risk of injury. The development is positioned as a response to a shortage of qualified trainers, particularly within educational institutions, offering athletes personalized support and supervision during their workouts. The robot integrates advanced video monitoring systems to observe an athlete’s movements in real-time.

Using AI, it analyzes posture, technique, and biomechanics to provide immediate feedback. According to information released by the university’s press office, the system alerts users when it detects potentially harmful movements or improper form, helping to reduce the likelihood of injury during training sessions. In addition to real-time supervision, the robot offers fully customized training programs tailored to individual users.

These programs are developed based on an athlete’s specific needs, including factors such as endurance, speed, and physical limitations. The AI system continuously adjusts these plans as the athlete progresses, ensuring that the guidance remains relevant and aligned with their goals. Weighing approximately five kilogrammes, the robot is highly mobile and can reach speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour. This capability makes it particularly useful for runners at all levels, from casual joggers to professional marathoners.

It can serve as a pacer during training runs, providing consistent speeds and intervals that help users build stamina and improve performance over time. The robot operates through a mobile application that enables users to manage their workouts, track progress, and analyze detailed performance data. Through the app, athletes can access reports on their endurance, speed, and overall fitness levels, allowing for more informed adjustments to their training strategies.

This digital integration supports athletes in setting and achieving specific fitness objectives more efficiently. Don State Technical University emphasizes that this innovation is intended not only for individual use but also for sports institutions seeking modern, technology-driven training solutions. The robot’s ability to offer consistent, expert-level guidance addresses gaps where human resources may be limited or inconsistent. It reflects a broader trend in the sports industry towards the adoption of AI and robotics to supplement traditional coaching methods.

The AI-powered robot is currently being tested by various groups of athletes and physical education departments within Russia. Initial feedback reportedly highlights its effectiveness in preventing injuries and enhancing training outcomes, with users noting improvements in their understanding of proper technique and their ability to maintain optimal form during strenuous activities. This latest development aligns with ongoing global efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into sports science, providing innovative tools that enhance both safety and performance across multiple disciplines. – By Content Syndication Services.
